trumpDonald Trump sharpened his criticism of Republican presidential rival Ted Cruz in television interviews broadcast Sunday morning, lambasting Cruz’s approach to the Senate and expressing doubts about whether the senator’s “temperament” is fit for the presidency.

The remarks came as new polling showed Cruz surging past Trump in Iowa and the two candidates have begun to more forcefully distinguish themselves from each other.

“I don’t think he has the right temperament,” Trump said of Cruz on “Fox News Sunday.” “I don’t think he’s got the right judgment.”

Pressed to elaborate, Trump said, “You look at the way he’s dealt with the Senate, where he goes in there like a, you know, frankly like a little bit of a maniac. You’re never going to get things done that way.”

Cruz has alienated both Republican and Democratic colleagues for his tactics in the upper chamber. In pressing his staunchly conservative agenda, he has often complicated legislation pushed by leaders of both parties. In 2013, he led an effort against President Obama’s signature health-care law that many said caused the subsequent government shutdown.

Trump said Cruz’s unwillingness to “cajole and get along with people” makes him a flawed candidate for president.

“He’ll never get anything done, and that’s the problem with Ted,” Trump said.

A Des Moines Register poll released Saturday showed Cruz leading the Republican race in Iowa with 31 percent of the vote. Trump placed second with 21 percent. Meanwhile, as first reported by the New York Times, Cruz voiced doubts about Trump’s “judgment” in a closed-door fundraiser last week.

  1. Cruz is a true .conservative in all shades

    and loads full of substance,

and that terrifies, all their pretenses aside, the media and liberal strongholds much more than rabble rouser Trump who is more like the Front National

    iirc Trump’s appeal is problematic

(one wonders if he actually suscribes even a little to his own rhetoric)

There’s a world of difference between the two:

In 1983, an idealistic student of political science at Columbia University in New York penned an article for the university magazine railing against the “war mentality” of America and “the relentless, often silent spread of militarism in the country”.

President Ronald Reagan was a hostage to the “twisted logic of the Cold War”, the student wrote, and was “playing into the Russians’ hands” rather than “shifting America off the dead-end track” and pursuing the proper goal of a “nuclear free world”.

  2. Amusing ,how the oligarchic stuffy mega corporate boardroom mainstream republicrats who the media hitherto loved to hate are suddenly now the “moderate” “normal” heros of the media

  3. Amusing ,how the oligarchic stuffy mega corporate boardroom mainstream republicrats who the media hitherto loved to hate and properly blamed for much what is wrong with Amrica, are suddenly now the “moderate” “normal” heros of the media

  4. Cruz is no friend of American Liberty. His posturing for Israel is Christian-religion conscious preparatory revision and he is not likely to defend your human rights.

Bad guy but not as scary as Trump.

If you like the GOP, the only guys that are remotely like the GOP of the past are Bush, Kasich and Christie. Rand Paul is a hard type and a libertarian. He is not a worldly guy.

So Cruz can go too. Who cares if he has any more value in his “successful” journey to the top.

    Scary.

  5. If Cruz wins Iowa, that will finally mark the downfall of Trump. At that point, Cruz would win New Hampshire as well. All the air in Trumps bag will come out. The TRUE Republicans will finally put an end to the nonsense called Trump. All the Clinton voters who comment above, negatively about Cruz, are just petrified that when the dust clears, he will be the Republican nominee and will easily beat Hillary.
