Donald Trump sharply criticized San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Monday for refusing to stand for the national anthem, telling a radio host it’s a “terrible thing.”

“Maybe he should find a country that works better for him. Let him try. It won’t happen,” said the Republican presidential nominee, who spoke to conservative show host Dori Monson on KIRO radio in Seattle ahead of his Tuesday trip to the region for a fundraiser and rally.

Kaepernick, who has been highly critical of both Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, has drawn national scrutiny for his decision to sit during the national anthem before games as a form of protest against what he sees as injustices across the country, including police treatment of civilians.

“I mean, ultimately it’s to bring awareness and make people realize what’s really going on in this country. There are a lot of things that are going on that are unjust, people aren’t being held accountable for, and that’s something that needs to change,” he said Sunday, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

Asked what he would like to see changed, Kaepernick said: “There’s a lot of things that need to change. One specifically is police brutality, there’s people being murdered unjustly and not being held accountable. The cops are getting paid leave for killing people. That’s not right.”

Queried about his decision to spend time in a safely Democratic state like Washington, Trump acknowledged his challenge there, but added: “We seem to have a great receptivity there. We’ve gotten very good numbers from other states where we’re sort of in the same position.”

Most recent polls show Trump trailing Clinton, both nationally and in key battlegrounds.

  1. This is horrifying. Mr. Trump has no concession for an American citizen who is yet to understand American life or even discuss humor or politics. Mr. Kaepernick is a hard mind and has hard feelings about thoughts he has in his own in limited imperceived mind found as a hard thought for being a citizen. We do not deport the men and women who are yet to know their rights or their faith in G-d.

This man Trump is the negativity of all of my years of knowing politics. If any jew actually votes for him, let them find their gold in their soup. The nazis were so bad that no one can think that Kaepernick is the enemy of just our gold and our worth. This is a terror.

    • Nobody said that Kaepernick should be deported. It was merely suggested that if he didn’t like the USA, he should find a country that works better for him.

      • Cry to your daddy all you want. America is the home of the brave. If he is brave enough to know his own feelings and not kill anyone, we are brave enough to discuss his pace of poor thought. It might be a good future if the world just has more mind and less hate. That is the bigger problem. He is one man. You and others must find rights; not the idea to destine the other guy for more hate and disassembled lost mind. This is America, not the gestapo stock yard. Treat our entire nation better.

  2. I agree. This $19,000,000.00 salary a year spoiled brat ingrate premedona should get out of here if as he claims, it’s such an evil racist country.

    • Unless he makes an anti Muslim video. Then again, he wouldn’t be prosecuted for his “unpopular views” rather because the president and sec. of state needed a scapegoat.

  3. If we Haredi Jews believe that Kaepernick should leave the USA because he did not stand for the National Anthem, do we we also believe that the Haredim and Chasidim who don’t stand for Hatikva also leave Eretz Yisrael?
