President Trump took aim at storm-battered Puerto Rico in a series of Saturday morning tweets, claiming leaders of the U.S. territory appealing for federal help “want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort,” the Daily Beast reports.

Amid appeals from Puerto Rican authorities for federal aid in the wake of Hurricane Maria, Trump denounced the “poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan,” who has publicly criticized his administration’s lackluster response to the island’s disaster.

Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz on Friday slammed the White House’s handling of the crisis, saying the federal government’s “inefficiency” is “killing” Puerto Ricans in need of urgent aid. Trump hit back, saying while Cruz “was very complimentary only a few days ago,” she “has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump.”

“…want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job.

“The military and first responders, despite no electric, roads, phones etc., have done an amazing job. Puerto Rico was totally destroyed.

“Fake News CNN and NBC are going out of their way to disparage our great First Responders as a way to “get Trump.” Not fair to FR or effort!

  1. President Trump has done exactly what had to be done.

The racist media wouldn’t dare criticize Obama on any of his wrongdoing – and what did he do right? – who went golfing at the time of Louisiana’s storm that left 11 people dead and 10,000 homeless. After all he’s black and wouldn’t want to be called racist.
