President Donald Trump on Thursday said he has “total confidence” in Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a day after it was revealed that he had conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. without disclosing it to a Senate committee during his confirmation hearing. The White House was reportedly unaware of Sessions’ contact with the Russian ambassador before The Washington Post’s initial report on Wednesday night.

A growing chorus of Democrats is calling on Sessions to resign, while some Republicans have joined Democrats’ calls for a special prosecutor to spearhead an independent probe into the Trump campaign’s alleged communication with Russian officials. Trump said he does not believe Sessions, who served in a top role in the campaign, should recuse himself, adding that Sessions “probably” testified truthfully about his contacts with the Russians. Read more.

  1. Jeff Sessions was correct to recuse himself.

The USA should not be “too close” to Russia.
