First they came for our greater-than-three-ounces fluids, and now they’re coming for our cell phones. The Transportation Security Administration announced on Sunday that passengers traveling from overseas to the U.S. should expect to have their cell phones and other electronics checked.
TSA officials will want to see that the devices can be turned on, and if they can’t be powered up, they won’t make it past security.
TSA said in a statement, “officers may ask that owners power up some devices, including cell phones. Powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.”
The added regulation comes just days after the Department of Homeland Security announced it would increase security measures at certain overseas airports, reportedly in response to fears that terrorists in Syria were developing more sophisticated ways to sneak bombs onto flights. The heAd line is misleading, they are not checking the content in our phones they are merly checking if it powers on in order to avoid the newest bomb threat.
This to me sounds like a good thing
