Austin police are investigating an explosion in a residential area on the city’s southwest side that caused multiple injuries, authorities said Sunday night.

Two men in their 20s were injured in the explosion on the 4800 block of Dawn Song Dr. They were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, Austin-Travis County EMS officials said on Twitter. The injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, officials said.

It is not yet clear whether Sunday’s explosion is related to three package explosions this month that claimed the lives of a 17-year-old high school student and a 39-year-old construction worker, and seriously injured a 75-year-old woman, as The Washington Post reported last week.

“Given the darkness, we have not really had the opportunity to really look at this blast site to determine what has happened,” interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said at a news conference late Sunday. “It’s obvious there’s been an explosion; it’s obvious it caused significant injures to two people, and it is important right now for anyone in the neighborhood behind us to remain inside and give us time to work through this.”

Police have not said whether Sunday’s explosion was caused by a package bomb. Authorities asked residents to stay in their homes as officers continue to sweep the area.

Police say they have no motive for the explosions, which have put the Texas community on edge. The first explosion happened March 2, followed by two additional blasts on March 12. In those instances, boxes left outside homes overnight detonated when they were picked up or opened.

Sunday’s explosion occurred in southwest Austin. The previous explosions happened in the eastern side of the city.

Earlier Sunday, the Austin Police Department increased the reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the first three explosions to $100,000. An additional $15,000 is being offered by the governor’s office.

  1. Just another example of the ineptness of the corrupt FBI. They failed in San Bernardino (they’re still trying to access their cellphones). They failed in Las Vegas ( still never found the guard who approached the shooter). They failed in Parkland (after hundreds of pbone calls warning them). And now they failed in Austen. They’re still searching for some connection of Trump winning the election and some Russian drunk.
