An NYPD sergeant and officer have been shot in the Bronx.

CBS reports that the shooting took place just before 3 p.m. at 1575 Noble Avenue in the Van Nest section.

The two men were responding to a report of a robbery in progress. They were rushed to Jacobi Hospital.

This is a developing story.

UPDATE, 4:08 p.m.: One of the officers has died from his wounds.

1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reports that when the officers arrived at the scene of the home invasion, they were told that the suspect had taken off and were given a description of the suspect’s vehicle. They headed out and identified the vehicle just blocks away at 1460 Beach Avenue. When they approached the suspect, there was an exchange of gunfire. The sergeant was struck in the head and the other officer was hit in the leg.

Both officers were taken to the hospital, where, as mentioned, the sergeant passed away. The other officer, who was shot ten times, is expected to survive.

The gunman, identified as Manuel Rosales, was killed in the exchange. He was carrying multiple guns, sources said.

  1. Most likely he was shot and died because instead of acting by instinct, he had to worry if he shoots first he’s liable to be sentenced to life prison because some idiot filmed him on an i-phone and then put it up on the Internet and from the general population who doesn’t understand the danger the policetheir perspective he used unnecessary force. And the irony is that the criminal was killed here anyway. Believe me, it’s a bad time to be a cop (and an Israeli soldier.)

    • Can’t compare an Israeli soldier and an American cop. The former is mandatory drafted and literally fighting for survival in what is practically speaking a war zone. The latter is voluntary employed in a civil society, very well paid, enjoys all kinds of the legal system perks. If you are allergic to cameras and can’t act as a civil servant, don’t become a cop. USA needs a civilian society police force, not a paramilitary above-the-law occupying force.

  2. Most likely he was shot at and died because instead of acting, he delayed his reaction by split seconds with thoughts that if he shoots first he’s liable to be sentenced to life prison because some idiot filmed him on an i-phone and then put it up on the Internet . The general population doesn’t understand the danger the police are subjected to day in and day. And the irony is that the criminal was killed here anyway.
