The U.S. notified the United Nations Security Council late Friday of its plan to call a vote Monday on a draft resolution for new sanctions against North Korea. The draft resolution would block the country’s exports of textiles and ban employment of its guest workers by other countries, Bloomberg reports. The resolution also seeks to freeze North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s assets, according to the report.

The move comes after Pyongyang carried out its sixth and most powerful nuclear test last week, prompting world leaders, including the U.S., to scramble to take action. North Korea’s state-run media has praised the recent nuclear test, lauding Kim’s “brilliant achievement” in boosting nuclear activities. The country also warned Friday that the U.S. would “pay dearly” after UN Ambassador Nikki Haley said Pyongyang was “begging for war.” Read more at BLOOMBERG.
