U.S. Data Hack May Have Hit 18 Million

computer laptop hackerThe attack on the Office of Personnel Management’s databases earlier this year may have affected an estimated 18 million current, former and prospective federal employees — more than four times the 4.2 million the agency publicly said — and the number is expected to rise.

Citing U.S. officials briefed on the investigation, CNN reports FBI Director James Comey revealed the higher figure in a closed-door briefing to senators in recent weeks.

The cyber breach may include people who applied for government jobs, but were never hired.

Investigators believe Chinese hackers are behind one of the largest security breaches against the U.S. Read more at CNN.
