second-lieutenant-hadar-goldinThe umbrella organization representing British Jewry has called on the U.K. government to do everything it can to help secure the release of British-born Israeli soldier 2nd Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, 23, who is believed to have been kidnapped by Hamas.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, Hamas terrorists, including a suicide bomber, emerged from a Gaza tunnel and ambushed several Israeli soldiers, killing two-Maj. Benaya Sarel, 26, and St.-Sgt. Liel Gidoni, 20-and dragging Goldin back into a tunnel, just an hour and a half into a 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire.

“We urge the [U.K.] government to show its support for the Goldin family and to speak out against this deplorable act by the terrorist group Hamas, and do everything in its power to secure his release,” the Board of Deputies of British Jews said in a statement.

Goldin is one of four children of a British immigrant family from Kfar Saba.

Simcha Goldin, father of Hadar, said he is “sure the army will not let up for a moment and will turn over every stone in Gaza to bring back Hadar safe and sound.”
