ukraineA UN report released Monday estimates that more than 6,000 people have been killed in eastern Ukraine since fighting escalated in the region in April 2014. From mid-January to mid-February alone, 842 people are believed to have been killed in the conflict, despite a supposed ceasefire. The UN investigation placed the blame on Russia for the lethal escalation.

“Credible reports indicate a continuing influx of heavy and sophisticated weaponry to armed groups in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as foreign fighters, including from the Russian Federation,” the report states.

The UN report was released on the same day that Secretary of State John Kerry is set to meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, to discuss the situation in Ukraine. Read more at The New York Times.
