post-officeIn an effort to save money, the US Postal Service (USPS) may alter its delivery schedule. Under the proposed plan, USPS would deliver first-class and priority mail by ground instead of air, thus delaying delivery by a day. The proposed plan would save $1.1 billion a year on airline fuel and transportation costs, according to a study commissioned by Inspector General David Williams.

USPS has seen a large decline in the number of items being sent through the mail due in part to more Americans paying bills, shopping, and of course, emailing on the Internet.

Any proposed delivery-schedule change would be announced after Labor Day, postal officials said.

  1. Based on the premise of delaying mail in order to save money, the US Postal Service should have saved up a fortune by now.
