trafficAggressive driving is a serious problem in Israel, and many Israeli drivers do not obey traffic laws – they don’t keep a safe driving distance and don’t signal before changing lanes or turning. This is what the US State Department thinks about Israelis and Israeli drivers according to its updated guide on the State of Israel for the American tourist visiting the country.

The State Department continued: The Israeli driver tends to make sudden stops in the middle of the street without any forewarning, particularly in the right-hand lane. Drivers must exercise significant caution on Israel’s roads, especially in light of the high number of traffic accidents that result in injury and the very congested streets, specifically in urban areas.

If until now we thought Americans are mainly concerned about terrorism being carried out against its citizens while in Israel, now it turns out they are also worried about the Israeli driver.

The State Department also warns US citizens about crime levels in Israel. According to the department, there has been an increase in the number of car break-ins in Israel, a phenomenon most prevalent along the beach, the Dead Sea, and in national parks, particularly Caesarea National Park. US citizens are advised not to leave important documents or expensive belongings in their cars.

According to the US tourist information, there has also been a rise in pickpocketing against tourists in Israel in cities and cemeteries throughout the country.

The US State Department also cautions its citizens about the extensive security checks many travelers have to undergo in order to enter and exit the country, and warned that travelers’ computers, cameras, or other electronic devices may be confiscated by Israeli authorities. The State Department notes that while equipment is most often returned to its owners, it may be damaged, destroyed, or lost.

  1. I agree the extensive security checks many travelers have to undergo in order to enter and exit the country really is a bit much. I mean cmon why cant they they lighten up a bit like they do here in the good old us of a?? Just because israel doesnt let the bombers in so easily is really no reason to profile and have such security. they ought to learn from all the liberals here in the usa and have nigerians board planes to detroit with no baggadge and bombs in his gatkes.
It really is amazing how stupid the state dept is. I would have thought that at least they would be ashamed to say such things

  2. Of course drivers should be more cautious, but as a driver in Yerushalayim, I must say that a VERY LARGE part of the problem are the pedestrians. People step into the streets without looking, don’t make eye contact with the driver, make sudden stops while crossing midway, young children run across without looking, walk in the most narrow and busy streets because sidewalks are congested etc… I personally say a perek of Tehillim each day for the safety of my family and I started when I began driving…

  3. The reason why the State Dept. has issued this warning is very simple; because its true! Whereas a handful of people have died in Israel this year at the hands of terrorists, more than 400 people were killed on Isreali Roads.

  4. It’s about time! A close friend of mine’s brother was killed by an Israeli driver while in Israel. This warning should have come MUCH sooner. Also, what about the Israeli driver HERE in USA. -especially in neighborhoods that have a large Israeli population? My son-in-law is an Israeli-when he is on the road, I think we ALL need to Bench Goymel!!

  5. THIS IS 100% correct. THE DRIVERS IN ISRAEL ARE DISGRACEFUL AND IT IS A SAKANA EVEN TO WALK ON THE PAVEMENT. THEY THINK THEY OWN THE ROAD. MORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED ON THE ROADS THAN IN WAR. THE RABBANIM AND THE POLICE NEED TO BE VERY TOUGH. EVEN THE CARS ARE IN BAD NEED OF REPAIR.

  6. I have almost been killed several times by coming around a curve only to find an Israeli motorist completely stopped in a travel lane. This would be a serious offense in a civilized country, people here are just completely oblivious to anything outside their arba amahs.

Another sad phenomena, whenever I see a pedestrian I give him the right of way, as I learned. They are always shocked that a car would stop for them, in Israel might seems to make right.

All the crime is not in Jewish areas, it’s wherever the Arabs are allowed to go, look at the list.

Lastly, the U.S. confiscates property more than any government in history. Every border crossing in Californa and the southwest is a good place to lose your belongings. They have nothing to scare people about. Israelis for all their faults, B”H don’t steal.

  7. How could the Rabbanim say anything? Be realistic. a) those drivers are driving THEM around, and b) they are too busy organizing hafganot against goyishe companies (INTEL) for keeping open on Shabbes in an industrial zone.
