U.S. Still Sending Jets to Egypt

military-planesThe U.S. isn’t changing plans to deliver four F-16 fighter jets to Egypt, even after the military ousted President Morsi last week. U.S. defense officials told Reuters the planes would probably be sent in August as part of the yearly aid package. If the U.S. brands the overthrow of Morsi as a coup, it would be required by law to halt aid to the military, but Washington says it needs time to decide how to brand the situation.

“It’s our view that we should not … hastily change our aid programs,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

Eight more F-16s are due to be delivered in December as part of a package of 20 jets. Read more here.
