U.S., Ukraine, Russia Sign Pact

kerryThe United States, Russia, Ukraine, and the European Union entered into a pact in Geneva today to de-escalate a tense situation in eastern Ukraine.

Described by Secretary of State John Kerry as way to avert “a complete and total implosion,” it outlines plans to pull pro-Russian groups out of the area but does not call for removal of Russian troops on the border.

“It’s our belief…that Russia’s hand is in the disruptions and chaos we’ve seen in Eastern Ukraine,” President Obama said at a White House press conference, expressing skepticism that Russia would follow-through on the agreement. “I don’t think given past performance that we can count on that,” he said, noting that without improvement, the U.S. will impose sanctions”This whole exercise by the Russians is not good for Russia either.”
