The University of Texas announced Thursday that its prominent statue of Jefferson Davis will be moved from the South Mall of the campus into the history center.

Statues of three other Confederate figures, including Robert E. Lee will stay outside on the mall, however.

An advisory panel had previously met to discuss the removal of one of the statues from the mall. The university was gaining pressure to do something about the statue since controversy arose with Confederate flags in South Carolina earlier this summer. Read more at the Austin American-Statesman.
