[Video and photos below.] Yesterday, Lakewood Hatzolah and Lakewood First Aid braved the frigid weather for a joint practice drill. Participating were Lakewood Township Committee member Meir Lichtenstein and other members of Hatzolah who practiced vehicle extrication, the process of removing a vehicle from around a person who has been involved in a motor vehicle accident when conventional means of exit are impossible or inadvisable.
A delicate touch is needed to minimize disturbance to the victim during the extrication. This operation is typically accomplished by utilizing chocks, bracing to stabilize, and hydraulic tools, including the Jaws of Life.
The joint drill was held at the Astor Chocolate parking lot off of New Hampshire Avenue.
