camp-simcha[Video below.] Yesterday, the campers and staff members of Chai Lifeline’s Camp Simcha paid a visit to Times Square in the heart of New York City. Together, the hundreds of campers and counselors sang and danced, bringing life and happiness to Manhattan at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. The song in the video below is “Waving Flag.”

Camp Simcha is an oasis of fun, friendship, love, and hope for children living with cancer and other blood-related illnesses.  Located on the 125-acre Jack and Moishe Horn Campus in Glen Spey, New York, Camp Simcha offers children and teens, ages 5 – 20, the chance to forget about illness and concentrate on being normal. They can share their hopes, fears and triumphs with friends, or just forget about illness for a while. Campers are lavished with love in a positive environment that imbues them with the confidence and fortitude they need to navigate the forthcoming year’s trials.

The love and joy of Camp Simcha can be seen in the video below. Click below to watch:

  1. shame we don’t know the words of that song, must be meaningful.

Why would they come out to Manahattan? Is it a trip? fun? what was the point?

  2. In answer to #1, this was an event designed to be fun, exciting and emotional for all the kids of Camp Simcha as well as many of their families who were there. They are singing a song about hope, search for ‘Waving Flag’ to see the lyrics, which were adapted slightly to better suit Camp Simcha. Amazing stuff.

  3. I envy those who get the Mitzva to be Misameach these children.
    ***
They went to Times Square, Is this an religious group???

  4. this should be added to the feature video. just knowing it is camp simcha makes it moving, and inspiring. The counselors deserve so much credit, for what they do, they are truly special people, to be able to make such simcha for the kids who are in need of it!

  5. As a member of Camp Simcha’s staff please allow me to address your questions:

This event was the finale of Camp Simcha’s annual NY Trip. We traveled from our camp grounds upstate to NYC for a day of fun and adventure. Second, yes Chai Lifeline and Camp Simcha is a religious group and we were escorted to a roped off area of Times Square were preperations were made for us to perform our dance. No one was permitted to roam Times Square and BH we were not exposed to any treif exposure. Additionally, as many of the campers are not religious themselves, Times Square was an appropriate, free, place to host this spectical as many of the parents and families were able to come and enjoy in person. Finally, Rabbi Scholar was present as was the entire Chai Lifeline head staff, he was just not visable in the video. I have video of another angle in which Rabbi Scholar is clear seem enjoying the event along with the parents of many of the children. Thank you all for your kind words about the children and staff of Chai Lifeline and Camp Simcha.

  9. The words to this song are:

Oh oh oh oh oh…oooh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh…oooh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Give me freedom, give me fire
Give me reason, make me higher

See the champions, take the field now
Unify us, make us feel proud

In Camp Simcha, hands are lifted
    As we lose our inhibitions

    Celebration, it surrounds us
    Every nation, all around us

    Singing forever young
    Singing songs underneath the sun

Let’s rejoice in the beautiful game
And together every end of the day
    We all sing…

When I get older, I will be stronger
    They’ll call me freedom
    Just like a Waving Flag
    Camp Simcha’s Flag
    And then it goes back
    And then it goes back
    And then it goes…
When I get older, I will be stronger
    They’ll call me freedom
    Just like a Waving Flag
    Camp Simcha’s Flag
    And then it goes back
    And then it goes back
    And then it goes…
Oh oh oh oh oh…oooh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh…oooh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Give you freedom, give you fire
Give you reason, take you higher

See the champions, take the field now
Unify us, make us feel proud
