cheney-obama[Video below.] President Barack Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, said yesterday that former Vice President Dick Cheney’s criticism of the Obama administration’s approach to the December 25 terror attempt is misinformed or intentionally false.

“It’s disappointing to me that either the vice president and others have willfully mischaracterized President Obama’s position and actions, or they’re just ignorant of the facts,” Brennan said on “Fox News Sunday. “I’m neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I’ve worked for the previous five administrations, and this president is determined, and I think it is demonstrated in his language. He says that we’re at war with Al Qaida. We’re going to destroy Al Qaida the organization.”

Brennan noted that he’s worked for the past five presidential administrations, and he’s neither a Democrat nor a Republican.

In a statement following the attempted bombing of a Detroit-bound U.S. airliner, Cheney, one of Obama’s harshest critics, said, “It is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war.”

“He seems to think if he has a low-key response to an attempt to blow up an airliner and kill hundreds of people, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war,” Cheney said. “He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of Sept. 11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war.”

In response, Brennan said Obama has been “very, very strong” on terrorism, noting the President said the nation is at war with an international network of terrorists in his inaugural address a year ago.

“I would not have come back into this government if I felt that this president was not committed to prosecuting this war against al-Qaeda,” he said.

“And every day, I see it in the president’s face. I see it in the actions he has taken. And, so, I’m confident that this country is, in fact, protected by this president’s position.”

Brennan said all the finger-pointing and partisan politics is disturbing.

“I find it very disappointing that people would use this issue – an issue of tremendous import, of national security – and forget that it is al-Qaeda that is killing our citizens,” he said.

  1. The problem with this statement is, that in Obama’s eyes, killing Israeli civilians R”L is not terrorism.
Abbas calling the three murderers martyrs is still a “statesman” supported by the administration.
    They just don’t “chap” it.
