peres[Video below.] Former President Shimon Peres paid a shivah call yesterday to the families of the kedoshim of Har Nof.

“My grandfather, Tzvi Meltzer, was murdered in a synagogue by Nazis as he was wrapped in a prayer shawl just for being a Jew,” related Peres. “Today too, our people are united under faith against all murder and terror. The memory of your loved ones will be blessed,” Arutz Sheva reported.

“So much suffering and yet so much value and so much trust in the Lord, in humankind, in the order of Moses saying that every person was born in the image of the Lord,” continued Peres, saying G-d created not only Jews but also Druze and Bedouin, “and also Arabs.”

Speaking about the Jewish victims, Peres used a rather odd choice of words, referencing Christian tradition, saying “their whole life they were busy with learning the gospel, deepening it, teaching it to children all their lives.”

  1. CUT HIM SLACK HE IS AN OLD MAN. THAT KIND OF COMMENT SURE DOES NOT REFLECT ONE WHO STUDIES THE GOSPEL OR, LEHAVIL, TORAS EMES

  2. Give the man a break!

He’s 91 years old and English is perhaps his 5th language!

He was simply trying to keep everything in English and used “gospel” as his on-the-fly translation of “Torah,” meaning “a doctrine regarded as of prime importance,” which is a common use of the term.

  3. Sounds to me like he just was looking for a word for written torah in English. He does not use these words very often; he speaks in Hebrew, and made a mistake. The word he was looking for was, “bible”. I would have used “torah”, but bible is fine given who he assumed would be listening. Let’s not exaggerate these things.

  4. One of the meanings in the Dictionary for the word gospel is “something regarded as true and implicitly believed”.

So we have a little room to be Dan L’kaf Zechut.

  5. That joke of a man has ALWAYS got on my nerves. Not only because of the way of life he has always led,but because of his so often repeated line each time there was a terrorist attack “the peace process must continue”.Where on earth has your peace process that you obviously have been eating, drinking and sleeping all these years got to?.Only to more and more bloodshed,Mr.ex-president and prime-minister.You have constantly been blinded to the obvious fact that it was never ever going to work, nor will it ever will. Can a cat and a dog ever make peace?,so nor can two sworn enemies!,not quite rocket science,Shimon.Another thing is certain, you will never die wearing tallis and tefillin.I’de love it if you would prove me wrong though.
