avos-ubonim-lakewood-awards-evening[Video and photos below.] Lakewood, NJ – Avos Ubonim in Lakewood wrapped up another long and productive winter season last night with the Avos Ubonim Special Awards Evening at Lake Terrace Hall.

The Avos Ubonim program has grown all around the world by leaps and bounds. In Lakewood alone this winter, thousands of boys, third grade and above, and their chavrusos learned at over seventy locations on Motzoei Shabbosos.

At the event last night, the boys heard words of chizuk from Rabbi Mordechai Zions, director of Pirchei of Lakewood, and Rav Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoah. The special guest speaker was Rabbi Fishel Schachter.

The event featured the Lakewood Boys Choir directed by Rabbi Yehoshua Ausfresser raffles and a gift for each boy who attended 8 or more weeks of Avos Ubonim. Snacks sponsored by Bagel Nosh were served.

The all-volunteer run program, which includes raffles, gifts and end-of-zeman prizes, generates over 75,000 hours of learning.

  1. Everyone should remember, that father’s learning with sons’ on motzoei shabbos was the idea of rabbi joshua silbermintz under the title “father and sons (avos ubanim in hebrew). It was just one of many ideas he instituted. because it was one of many, he could not give it the full attention it needed, and also he had to fund raise for all the projects he wanted to implement and that is very difficult and time consuming. The same thing was true for those that filled his position after hie petirah.

  2. I don’t know who’s idea it was originally. However, Rabbi Gelbwachs was the first to implement “Father and sons learning” in Yeshiva Tiferes Torah.
