chavrusah-tumult-elul-5770-30[Video and photos below.] Lakewood, NJ – A large crowd gathered today at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, to kick off the tri-annual chavrusah tumult that takes place before each zeman – winter, spring, and at the beginning of Chodesh Elul. Today’s gathering has seen beautiful, balmy weather.

The chavrusah tumult is a bit smaller than usual, since no new bochurim entered the yeshiva this zeman; admittance to Beth Medrash Govoha is only after Sukkos and Pesach. Following chavrusah tumult, and chaburos and seats  will be finalized for the thousands of talmidim in the yeshiva. The yeshiva has appointed special memunim tasked with the responsibility of helping any talmid who requires a chavrusah or chaburah.

This zeman, the official yeshiva mesechta is Maseches Gittin. During first seder, the yeshiva will learn the fourth perek, from the Mishnah on Daf Lamed Zayin Amud Bais. During second seder, the yeshiva will learn Perek Hazoreik. Night seder will be designated for learning Perek Hasholeiach. In various botei medrash, the yeshiva has chaburos devoted to covering virtually every area of Shas and poskim, offering many options for the yeshiva‘s talmidim to choose from.

  1. My daughter was wondering why refer to this wonderful setting as a TUMULT which by definition in no way describes this beautiful gathering.
    tu·mult? noun
violent and noisy commotion or disturbance of a crowd or mob; uproar:
a general outbreak, riot, uprising, or other disorder
highly distressing agitation of mind or feeling; turbulent mental or emotional disturbance:
She suggested calling it “MILCHAMTO SHEL TORAH”. HATZLOCHO TO ALL OF THE BNEI TORAH!!
