oorathon-2011-fiveish[Video and photos below. ] Tens of thousands of Yidden across the world joined last night to watch, listen or otherwise take part in the annual Oora-thon auction to benefit the renowned Oorah kiruv organization. Tens of thousands of viewers logged onto Matzav.com, which featured a webcast of this event as it does every year, as well as Oorah.org, where many watched the live-stream. The event – perhaps the largest such Jewish event in the world –  was a true kiddush Hashem, drawing tens of thousands across the globe, keeping many entranced until the wee hours of the morning.

In an effort to reach out to the masses, Oorah secured a time slot on one of the nation’s largest radio networks, WABC 770 AM, which, with its 50,000 watt clear-channel signal, can be heard in 38 states and Canada. This was in addition to the largely successful webcast featured here on Matzav.com and Oorah.org, and the smaller radio station broadcasts throughout the country. Oorah received thousands of donations last night alone.

People responded enthusiastically upon seeing firsthand the success Oorah has achieved in its massive kiruv efforts. The program featured interviews with those who benefit from Oorah’s myriad programs, as well as other exciting treats, including the “Deuling Rabbis,” a tribute for the 25th yahrtzeit of Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l, and musical performances by Shua Kessin, Michoel Pruzansky, Lipa Schmelczer, Sruli Williger, Yehudah Green, Dovid Gabay, Eitan Katz and more.

The event was hosted, as always, by Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss, Country Yossi and Elchonon Schwartz.

  1. Thanks for the pictures, but they give a bit of a distorted picture of the Radiothion.

It lloks like tour photographer got there several hours into the event, and missed many of the content-filled interviews , the Dueling Rabbis, and many other entertainers.

Lipa was there, but he was not at all the centerpiece of the evening.

In all fairness, I think you should get pictures of teh first 4 hours from Oorah and show what an inspiring event it truly was.

  2. I my opinion,I think Shua Kessin’s Havdalah was a massive highlight of the event and very inspiring.
Everything else was okay but just cute.
I would have loved to see some of that footage again.
