Video, Photos: Pittsburger Rebbe in Lakewood

[Video and photos below.] The Pittsburger Rebbe, Rav Mordechai Yissochor Ber Leifer of Ashdod, is currently in the United States. The Rebbe’s visit in Lakewood, NJ, was capped last night with a kabbolas ponim at Bais Medrash Bais Mordechai on Heathwood Avenue. A large crowd gathered to hear divrei hisorerus, greet the Rebbe and daven Maariv with him. After davening, the Rebbe sang niggunim with the gathered crowd, and gave out mezonos and lechaim.

This coming Shabbos, the Rebbe will be in the Long Beach community and will be hosted by Rav Chaim Wakslak.

In Lakewood, the Rebbe is being hosted by Rabbi Yehudah Grossman.

The Pittsburgh Chassidic community comprises almost 100 families. Most of them live in Ashdod, but there are Pittsburgher Chassidim in Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak, Beis Chilkiya, New York, and California.

The Pittsburgh chassidus is named in honor of the American city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where this dynasty existed for two generations. It is a scion of the Nadvorna dynasty.

For a brief time, the Pittsburgher Rebbe had a yeshiva in Newark, New Jersey.

Pittsburgh Chassidus is famous for its niggunim. Many of these niggunim are based on melodies originally composed by the previous Pittsburgher Rebbe, Rav Avrohom Abba Leifer, father of the current Rebbe, and others were composed by the current Rebbe, Rav Mordechai Yissochor.

The current Rebbe is the author of Pisgamei Oraisa. He is a son-in-law of Rav Isaac Liebes and serves as Av Beis Din of the Iggud HaRabannim Rabbinical Council.
