Video, Photos: Rav Chaim Kanievsky Turns On Bnei Brak Generator

[Video and photos below.] Accompanied by many onlookers, Rav Chaim Kanievsky visited Bnei Brak’s Town Hall this past week to turn on the generator that provides electricity on Shabbos for the many in the city who are makpid not to use the electricity provided by the electric company due to chillul Shabbos.

Bnei Brak Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Asher had visited the home of Rav Chaim earlier and explained that there was a portion of Rechov Rashbam where streetlights were not connected to the generator. Rabbi Asher contacted Mr. Aaron Mahlouf, director of the municipal electricity department, and asked him to check into the technical possibility of connecting the streetlights in the area to the generator as well.

Rav Chaim expressed great joy that the additional lights were connected to the generator and was joined in making a lechaim by the gathered crowd. He also wished mazel tov to the mayor on his eldest son’s engagement the week before.
