rav-kahn-rav-povarsky[Video below.] Matzav.com reported earlier this month that  senior rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Orchos Torah, Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman, hosted the well-known elder Lubavitcher, Rav Yoel Kahn. Rav Kahn subsequently met as well with Rav Berel Povarsky, rosh yeshiva at the Ponovezh Yeshiva. The two discussed various matters, including inyonei Chanukah.

What is the point of posting this here, as well as the earlier story re the encounter with Rav Steinman shlit”a?

What we have here basically is two old chaveirim meeting. Though some, for their own reasons, want to spin this and the other meeting to imply that the stance of these gedoilim to Lubavitch has now changed, what we see here does not support such an interpretation.

This was a meeting between two old acquaintances that was publicized, that’s it.

R. Kahn is not being invited to give shiurim in R. Berel’s yeshiva now. R. Berel hasn’t become a Lubavitcher nor started to believe the Rebbe is or was Moshiach.

So what is all the tumult about?

Matzav.com shouldn’t fall into the trap of reading too much into things.

P.S. In both of these cases, we see the beautiful varemkeit of these Litvishe gedoilim! Vareme Litvaks indeed!

in response to #1.rav kahan isnt a mashichist… i think its worthwhile to show that there is a faction within lubavitch that are considered mainstream and can talk in learning with the likes of rav povarsky and rav shteinman. shalom in klal yisroel is to be encouraged..not negated.

The point is that we have to accept one another.

I think that was pretty simple

To Mr. “Stick To The Facts”

The point being made is that such a meeting could not have taken place 10-20 yrs ago when the animosity to Chabad was at its heights. Now, responsible people are starting to realize that the war is over and the reasons for it are no longer relevant…

messianism has not stopped, nor disappeared. The harchokos established by gedolim must still be maintained.
