grimm2Things are looking grim for Grimm.

Congressman Michael Grimm reportedly threatened Michael Scotto, a reporter with NY1, a local New York television news station, after the State of the Union tonight, with being thrown off a balcony, saying, “You’re not a man. I could break you in half.”

Scotto was concluding an interview with the Staten Island Republican when he decided to ask one more question. Grimm cut him off, saying, “I’m not speaking about anything that is off-topic. This is only about the president’s speech.”

The reporter then spoke to the camera saying that he hoped to ask Grimm about the ongoing campaign finance investigation around his 2010 campaign. Grimm, a former FBI agent, got into the reporter’s face. In a transcript posted by NY1, Grimm said, “Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I’ll throw you off this ….. balcony.” Scotto interjected, saying that he had “a valid question.” The New York Republican then responded by saying “No, no, you’re not man enough, you’re not man enough. I’ll break you in half. Like a boy.”

In a statement afterwards, Grimm said: “I was extremely annoyed because I was doing NY1 a favor by rushing to do their interview first in lieu of several other requests. The reporter knew that I was in a hurry and was only there to comment on the State of the Union, but insisted on taking a disrespectful and cheap shot at the end of the interview, because I did not have time to speak off-topic. I verbally took the reporter to task and told him off, because I expect a certain level of professionalism and respect, especially when I go out of my way to do that reporter a favor. I doubt that I am the first Member of Congress to tell off a reporter, and I am sure I won’t be the last.”

  1. For to many years ambush interviews have taken place against what the liberal media considers their enemy. They demand the rights that they don’t afford their victims. Grins yelled at him good for grimms more should have the guts to answer back

  2. Poor Mr. Grimm has anger management problems. Also judgment problems. This is not the behavior a Congressman should exhibit in public, especially not to members of the press with lots of witnesses around. I’m also not sure what he means by the “not a man” comment. It sounds a little weird. Congress settles things by votes these days, not by duels and fistfights. Perhaps he’s been watching too many action movies?

I’m not a New Yorker so I don’t know if Mr. Grimm has been doing well by his constituents, but he would do even better if he learned to control himself.
