mbd1[Videos below.] In the short time since the release of Mordechai Ben David’s newest album, Kulam Ahuvim, one song has quickly become a popular wedding hit. This song can be considered a surprise hit, having been placed as the ninth track on the new album. Now, admittedly, song placement on an album is not a solid indicator of whether a song will make it “big” or not – Hentalach was last on Lipa’s album – but the popularity of MBD’s “Amar Rabi Akiva” is seen as remarkable by this music writer as well as musicians and Jewish music aficionados. It has been compared by some to MBD’s hit “Maaminim,” though it is different in style and beat.

When asked in an interview which song from his new album he feels will connect with his listeners and become a hit, MBD responded that, in his opinion, Kulam Ahuvim has the potential. Instead, however, it has been Amar Rabi Akiva that has taken over as the most popular song at weddings in a season that also featured a brand new release from Yaakov Shwekey.

“The arrangement of Amar Rabi Akiva is interesting in that is has a trance style, with electronic music…” said one wedding singer. “But it is lively and has great rhythm, and it has just taken off, being played in the first hora set at almost every simcha.

The song was composed by R’ Dudi Kalish of Belz in Eretz Yisroel. R’ Dudi is a talented musician, arranger and composer.

With the mind-blowing global success earlier this year of Matzav.com‘s vote for “Song of the Year 5769,” we are constantly monitoring the Jewish music scene for expected hits and surprise successes. Among the new offerings on the Jewish music market, Shua Kessin’s new album, “Lo Lehityaeish,” clearly has the potential to be a best-selling album. Stay tuned. We expect several big hits to emerge from the album.

  1. YEAH I AGREE I THINK THE KESSIN ALBUM HAS MANY MANY HITS FROM SLOW TO FAST TO WHATEVER
    GREAT STUFF
I ALREADY HEARD HIS STUFF BEING PLAYED AT A FEW WEDDINGS…..

  2. yes, its true. but i still think you will be hearing kessins songs all over. i wonder if matzav will be hosting another carlbach webcast with him?!

  3. The albums that come out these days absolutely stink when it comes to material.
Either there is very little or no material at all.
Now with MBD and Shwekey at least they could sing
there’s no material that will move you. nice songs to listen to yes,but no hits and shvache feel and toichin.
For that reason when it comes to some big albums they have to use all the latest shtick with this garbage club music which is great for a car but very degrading for what they should really be doing.
Basically another hoax to get people to enjoy songs even though the material is shvach.
Their old albums were great filled with great material,I have no idea why they cant produce that anymore
Amar R akiva is being sung bc its an MBD song and that’s about it.
In no way does it compare to Maaminim which was a good catch of a song.

Now actually with what you mentioned at the end about this Kessin guy i must agree with you
his songs have a lot of toichin and feel and his voice is pretty cool and i wouldn’t be surprised if the songs take off and i must give him credit for what he produced.

  4. How you managed to bring up the name of Kessin in an article about MBD is astounding. I highly doubt he will make it. A “one hit wonder”, maybe.
Could the fact that he is a constant advertiser on your site have anything to do with this de-facto endorsement?
