rav-chaim-kanievsky-rav-yitzchok-zilberstein[Videos below.] The Lakewood community gathered en masse last night Bais Faiga Hall for the annual Lev L’Achim Asifa, with the legendary Rav Chaim Kanievsky appearing live via satellite hookup. Rav Chaim agreed to allow Lev L’Achim to broadcast a question-and-answer session from his home to the annual gathering of the Lakewood Torah community on behalf of P’eylim / Lev L’Achim.

The noted posek, Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein, mara d’asra of Ramat Elchanan in Bnei Brak and author of numerous popular seforim, joined Rav Chaim for this unique event. The two, who are both sons-in-law of Rav Elyashiv, spoke in learning as the thousands in attendance in Lakewood watched the discussion taking place before their very eyes.

rav-chaim-kanievskyTo accommodate the record crowd at the event, Lev L’Achim secured use of the Chemed Medical Center parking lot on Route 9 and the large Cheder play yard at Clifton and 10th for parking. Shuttle buses from Negba Bus Company ran up and down Clifton between the two lots and Bais Faiga Hall throughout the night.

Last night’s event began with Maariv shortly after 10 p.m., followed by introductory remarks from Rav Yosef Karmel, the American Director of Lev L’Achim.

Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, then delivered the opening remarks, echoing the call to help Lev L’Achim handed down by his illustrious forebears.

Rav David Ozeiry, mara d’asra of the Yad Yosef Torah Center and director of Ateret Torah, who accompanied Rav Yosef Harari-Raful, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Ateret Torah in Brooklyn, to the Lev L’Achim Asifa in Bnei Brak last year, addressed the Lakewood gathering and shared his impressions from the whirlwind two-day tour that he and Rav Raful had made in Eretz Yisroel. Rav Ozeiry’s powerful drasha was cut short when the satellite transmission of Rav Chaim Kanievsky in Bnei Brak was ready to begin at about 11:15 p.m.

lev-lachim-lakewood-asifa-5770A pin drop could be heard as the massive crowd of thousands at Bais Faiga Hall – including an overflow crowd watching the proceedings in the adjacent chupah room – watched in awe as one of the gedolei hador, with humility and simplicity, answered shailos posed to him, often with lively explanations and he’aros from by Rav Zilberstein and the others gathered at Rav Kanievsky’s home on Rechov Rashbam.

The live satellite broadcast ended at about midnight.

Rav Nachum Barnetsky of Lev L’Achim delivered brief closing remarks as the thousands headed for the exits, with the knowledge that they had witnessed Torah greatness firsthand while helping ensure the return to Torah of a new generation in Eretz Yisroel.

  1. Any chance of a translation (or at least
major points!)of what Rav Kanievsky (and whoever that was speaking to him) said for non-yiddish speakers??

  2. thank you for providing this amazing video of the Gadol Hador. For those of us not yet fortunate to go to Eretz Yisroel this brought tears to my eyes to be able to see and hear Rav Chaim and not just see a still picture.
