[Multiple videos below.] The frum world has been taken by the song, Ve’afilu Be’hastarah, which is now being sung at simchos of all types, at kumzitzen, and in shuls across the world.
The song was composed by Shea Gross and Yoely Klein.
The words, from Likkutei Maharan, are:
Der Aibishter zogt unz kinderlach, “Anochi hastir astir Ponai bayom hahu,” aber der rebbe zogt, “Vafilu behastarah shebesoch hahastarah bevadai gam shom nimtza Hashem Yisborach. Gam mei’achorei hadevorim hakoshim ha’ovrim alecha ani omeid.
Hashem says (Devorim 31:18), “Anochi hastir astir Ponai bayom hahu,” but the rebbe says, “Vafilu behastarah shebesoch hahastarah bevadai gam shom nimtza Hashem Yisborach. Gam mei’achorei hadevorim hakoshim ha’ovrim alecha ani omeid.
Hashem says, “I will conceal Myself [from the Jewish people] on that day,” but the rebbe says, “Even in a concealment within a concealment, Hashem, may He be blessed, is certainly there.”

Can someone please explain why this is sung at every wedding I’ve been at recently? Tzaros don’t belong at a simcha (and no snarky jokes about what the chosson is getting himself into please).
Its a beautiful and moving song-just not for a wedding.
Nice warm song. But two things:
1. R’ Nachman there (?????? ????”?, ?”?, ??) is making a point that the double Hastarah is when you don’t even see any Hastarah. So when things are hard – that’s one Hastarah, and when everything is so great and natural that you don’t even feel that you’re missing Hashem – that’s the second Hastarah, ?”?.
So the second part: ?? ?????? ?????? ?????… doesn’t really match R’ Nachmans point.
2. The idea itself that even when Hashem is hidden he’s still there, isn’t R’ Nachman’s Chidush. That’s the plain P’shat in the Posuk! if something is hidden means that it’s there… R’ Nachman’s point was the explanation above.
So the words “???? ??? ??? ????” aren’t accurate. The Rebbe wasn’t saying that Hashem is there. That’s the plain P’shat.
It’s a song of emunah, bitachon and ahavas Hashem. What can be a better basis for binyan bayis ne’eman?
