ge-food-processorWalmart has recalled 255,000 GE food processors after reports of consumers getting hurt after the safety lock on the lid failed, said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The 14-cup, General Electric food processors were sold exclusively in Walmart stores nationwide and online from September 2009 through February 2011 for about $50 each.

The CPSC said the safety interlock system can fail and allow the food processor to operate without the lid being locked in place, creating a laceration hazard. The agency said the food processor can also smoke and catch fire.

Walmart received 58 reports regarding the food processors, including 24 cases of the unit chopping without the lid in place, with 21 consumers reporting injuries to their fingertips. The retailer also got 34 reports of the food processors smoking, with three catching fire.

The recall involves the GE digital, 14-cup food processor that is black with stainless steel trim and a model number of 169203, which is printed on the bottom of the unit. The food processors were made in China.

Consumers can return the units to any Walmart store for a refund. If you have any questions, contact Walmart Customer Service at (800) 207-0923 weekday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST.

In March, Lasko Products Inc. recalled millions of its box fans that were sold in stores nationwide — including at Walmart — after reports of the fans catching fire. Last December, portable heaters sold at Walmart stores were also recalled for the same reason.
