Want a U.S. Passport? Did You Have a Bris?

us-passportWere you  circumcised? Who was present when you were born? Where did your mother work? These are sample questions that applicants may be asked to answer on the proposed biographical questionnaire for a U.S. passport.

The questionnaire, boingboing reports, is intended for people seeking a U.S. passport but who cannot supply a birth certificate.
The U.S. State Department – the federal agency that processes passports – anticipates more than 74,000 respondents. It also estimates the form will take 45 minutes to complete.

Some see that figure as far-fetched.

“The State Department estimated that the average respondent would be able to compile all this information in just 45 minutes, which is obviously absurd given the amount of research that is likely to be required to even attempt to complete the form,” wrote Consumer Travel’s Edward Hasbrouck.

The State Department is seeking approval from the Office of Management and Budget for information collection. A 60-day public comment period ended Monday.

  1. OMG…..It’s easier to become President then to get a Passport!!!

You can become President of the United States without ever showing your Birth Certificate or school transcripts or anything you claim to have authored in college. Then you could have a Birth Certificate made up for you after a couple of years.

  2. Don’t laugh at this. Passport fraud is very serious. While serving on a federal grand jury, I voted to indict two people for passport fraud; they are facing long prison terms.

The “short form” birth certificate now routinely issued by most states (including my own birth state of Pennsylvania) is now acceptable for a US Passport. Birthers, take note.

  3. NY Birth certificates (at least when I was born eons ago)contain the name of the attending doctor as well as the occupations of both parents so this part is not a problem.

  4. All police states limit who is allowed to leave. This gives the Government total control over the population. The same is true of currency controls. The US already has police state currency controls in place that make it very difficult for US citizens to move money out of the USA. In the near future it will be illegal for ordinary US citizens to move their money out of the US.
