  1. Nonsense.
Most millionaire business people are dropouts of college or high school. I myself never attended high school and dropped out after eight grade from English and became a multi millionaire in my early twenties. I have friends who hold several degrees and can’t get a well paying job. Nothing wrong with someone learning a trade be it accounting, plumbing, graphics etc. but to think you need to study science Fiction like evolution or twisted historical nonsense is rediculous. If a businessman needs secretarial work,he hired a secretary. There is no need to be an expert on English. You hire lawyers, writers, plumbers, electricians, accountants, architects etc.
Anyone who has a sharp head can make it. Any one who study’s Talmud knows it’s replete with math, history, medicine, psychology and more.

  2. Education, especially in colleges, is larded with unnecessary core courses and much of the curriculum is also loaded with material that is anti religious, against halocha and objectionable.
An umnus for parnossa is required, but forcing students to complete courses in subjects that are of minimal or no use in their chosen professions is 100% wrong.

  3. As someone who went to Rockland County public schools as a child, I can tell you that other than reading and basic math there is no real need for secular education. Lipa is very misinformed.

Many people have made a good living without it. The quote from the gemara they mentioned has nothing to do with secular education

    • With all due respect you have not given a compelling reason why we should not teach our children the basics to enable them to make a respectable living.

  4. This is not an organization which is run by Yeshivish or Chasiddishe Yidden. It is run by feminists, secularists, and similar people. If you don’t believe me, research this group online, see who works for them, and decide for yourself. The director who is in the video, “Naftuli Moster,” also goes by “Nick,” an appropriate name for the season.
Then, in an act of shocking chutzpah, they put up cars and signs in our areas, and make it as though it is coming from us (this is not the first time they’ve driven their truck around). This group even protests publicly online against Agudas Yisroel and other frum groups.
Perhaps some secular education is good, and perhaps it is bad. Certainly, I am not advocating to violate American law. However, WE should have the right to be respected as competent adults, and be allowed to raise our children in peace. “Advocacy” for our community should come from INSIDE our community, not outside it from people who do not respect us.
To the people who run Yaffed–here is my message for you–you have no respect for us as a minority group. No respect for our right to educate our own children the way we want. You are similar to the American government under President Wilson which bragged that they took Native American children and educated them to be “productive Americans.” You, in the spirit of all Westerners, think you know what is best for every minority group. Leave us alone.

  5. These people are playing with fire!!! (I’m all for my kids having a good education, but this is not the way….)

BTW: If the private schools have to teach similar subjects to the public schools, why would they not PAY for every child the $20,000+ per child as they pay in Public schools? And give them buildings, equipment, computers, smartboards etc. to facilitate the children education. Everyone knows that if that was the case, most of the private schools, especially the Yeshivos will far exceed the level of secular education than most public schools. Why are the children going to private schools, who’s parents pay the same or even more in taxes than many of the public school kids not given the same tuition money as the kid going to public school?????

we say in Davening V’lamalshinim Al Te’he Tikva… unfortunately, these people fall into that category. Oy!!!

  6. Trump comes in Jan 20,these bums will be history. Trump supports private schools and yeshivas over the failing public school system. Trump all the way.

  7. Yes, there are select few who had Mazal and made it with Siata Dishmaya but by and large, anyone without a basic education will not succeed in a Career come what may. There is absolutely nothing wrong in learning how to read, write and have a decent command of the English Language. Nobody is suggesting to introduce in depth Biology to young Chasidic Boys. What we are suggesting is to have a proper Secular Curriculum and not have the Faculty of the School laugh it off as being “Goyish”. Trust me, if Chasisdic Schools took it seriously and the kids have a good Education from a young age, the level of Poverty will drastically lower and dependence on Government Handouts will be significantly lower. Take a look at Statistics around the Country where Poverty is rampant, Education was nill. Areas where Education was a Priority, the areas are affulent.

    • Let’s call a spade a spade! Please looking into our schools – do we have metal detectors? Are our children generally guilty of violent crime? Graffiti? Are the public schools producing on a high level? How many of their graduates are on programs? Dropped out? Involved with drugs, gangs, suicides. Check their percentages before looking at ours!
Overall, we are doing quite well. Let’s each parent decide where and how to educate. This is our right protected by the constitution.

      • Just becasue we are doing well does not mean we cant improve why shouldn’t we make it easier for our children to make a respectable living?

      • Shame on you for not posting my previous comments does the truth hurt?

“Are the public schools producing on a high level? How many of their graduates are on programs? Dropped out? Involved with drugs, gangs, suicides. Check their percentages before looking at ours!”

How many Yeshiva graduates are on programs? how many dropped out of college? how many dropped out before graduating Yeshiva? how many were expelled? Involved with drugs, underworld elements, suicide. How about reexamine the Orthodox community??

should someone be denied a primary education to earn a rudimentary salary to afford necessary amenities???????? or be stubborn and have people scrape the barrel because they missed out on a basic education??????

  8. I believe its irresponsible of us not to teach our children the necessary skills to enable them to go for higher education if they choose to.As a chasidesher married person I resented the fact that I was struggling for the last 5 years to get a secualr college degree becasue I was not taught basic reading, writing etc.

  9. the Maskilim also “looked” like yidden… no difference here. these people get a special tefilah from all of us 3 time a day – ve’lamalshinim lo te’iye tikva

  10. No one is saying go to college. If the Chassidish schools had a strong elementary school education that would get them very far in life. Yes they should get a high school education too but right now from my understanding the Chassidish kids get up to a 5th grade level of education throughout their schooling.

Also some kids may be good at math and not Gemara (like myself). So these kids which do not do well in their Gemara studies are a threat to go OTD. Put the same kids to learn basic english and math and there is a good chance that kid will stay and do well in their society.

Now on the college stand point I always wondered why can’t the large Yeshivos start their own college? Now I know that sounds crazy too many of you. By having their own college they can teach what is important for Parnassah and cut out all the bad stuff. Can you imagine the demand to have a BMG law graduate working for a firm? Same for accountants. To me it’s not an excuse anymore if they are concerned about what someone may teach their children in college. If you start your own, you control the curriculum. Almost every religion has colleges that cater to this. Yes we do have Landers and YU which are great institutions. We need a Charedei version of this.
