NY State Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) was the recipient of a warm standing ovation from his colleagues as Majority Leader Joseph D. Morelle recognized Hikind for his 36 years in the legislature. It was a bittersweet moment for Hikind and his family who were on hand as the popular Assemblyman said goodbye to Albany… but not to public service.

“In many ways, I’m just getting started,” said Hikind. “Long before I became an elected official, I was serving my community as an activist. Now, there’s even more that I can offer.

“I want to thank my community and thank G-d for giving me these amazing 36 years of being able to help people—help my community and help individuals. But anyone who thinks that I am ‘retiring’ doesn’t know me. I will never cease speaking out on issues that are important to us, and I will never stop working to make a difference in people’s lives. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and equally excited about the days to come, because there’s so much more that still needs to be done.”
