At former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres’ levayah this morning, as world leaders gathered at Yerushalayim’s Har Herzl cemetery to pay their respects, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas notably shook hands during the ceremony, a stunning signal of goodwill considering Abbas continued support of terror.

“Long time, long time,” Abbas told Netanyahu after shaking his hand before the start of the state ceremony.

Welcoming Abbas, Netanyahu said of his attendance: “It’s something that I appreciate very much on behalf of our people and on behalf of us.”

Abbas was given a front-row seat between European Council President Donald Tusk and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

President Obama briefly greeted the Palestinian leader with a kiss on each cheek before walking down the line to stand next to Netanyahu.

Obama remarked that Abbas’ presence at the funeral was “a gesture and a reminder of the unfinished business of peace” as started by Peres decades ago.
