Following the attack in Nice that killed at least 84 people former House speaker Newt Gingrich has called for deporting every American with a Muslim background who believes in Sharia law.

“Western civilization is in a war. We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background and if they believe in Sharia they should be deported,” Gingrich told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

“Sharia is incompatible with western civilization. Modern Muslims who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door,” he added.

Gingrich also said that the attack in Nice is the “fault of Western elites who lack the guts to do what is right, to do what is necessary,” and suggested that mosques in America need to be monitored.

Gingrich’s proposal, which made no distinction between U.S. citizens and non-citizens, would violate scores of First Amendment-based Supreme Court rulings as well as civil rights laws which together bar discrimination on the basis of religion, entanglement by the government in religion and restrictions on freedom of expression.

Gingrich has mentioned as a potential vice-presidential running mate with Donald Trump, who called off an announcement of his choice originally scheduled for Friday after the Nice attack.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the attack in Nice as well as Gringrich’s call to “test” and deport Muslims in the U.S.

“When former House Speaker Newt Gingrich suggests that American Muslims be subjected to Inquisition-style religious test and then expelled from their homes and nation, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awaid said, “he plays into the hands of terror recruiters and betrays the American values he purports to uphold.”

Following Gingrich’s comments, Sharia started trending in the United States on Twitter.

Gingrich also alluded to the long debated “Clash of Civilizations” debate during his interview on Fox News: “These people are opposed to our way of life, they are opposed to our value system, they are opposed to our various religions, they are opposed to the whole concept of freedom. . .” he said.

The comments made by Gingrich are similar to ones made by Donald Trump in 2015, where he called for surveillance of mosques.

  1. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is an apologist for various terror organizations and was in fact named as an unindicted coconspirator in the Holy Land Foundation plot to send cash to Hamas.

Newt Gingrich sounds like a buffoon (yet again!) with this latest off-the-wall idea; it’s 100% illegal and unconstitutional, radicals could simply lie about their beliefs, and which country would accept the deportees, especially U.S. citizens?

Still, make no mistake – “civil rights organization” CAIR is the evil one here.

    • 1. the Constitution can always be amended
      2. they won’t lie about their beliefs–it’s ossur leshitosom like lehavdil it’s ossur for us
      3. the US citizens who have no other nationality could be bribed to voluntarily move somewhere, or undoubtedly there will be muslim-loving countries that would be happy to admit them as refugees

Obviously politically impossible, at least at this point, but technically possible.

  2. Madness. Sharia is unconstitutional but their inner belief can be their mind to learn how to adapt. Madness to initiate McCarthy human joke hate.

It goes that we need better leaders. This one is not nice or timed.

  3. The Western World is prisoner of the Weimar complex, tied down by its own liberalism to become prey to the worst totalitarians.

  4. This is utterly pathetic. A lot of those terrorists (see Belgium attacks) enjoy alcohol and other “haram” things forbidden by islam, and do so in public no problem, and then one day they to do the unspeakable. For whatever reasons, but they do. By the way there are a lot of Americans (I am not talking about green-card permanent residents and other legally visa-holders people, but rather about USA citizens) whose beliefs are constitutionally protected, and they should be, how would we like it if we were asked if we believe in halacha and if we hold halacha above the country’s laws? We respect the laws, that should be enough.
