The following is a video of Assemblyman Dov Hikind addressing a concern over traffic changes coming to Ocean Parkway that will eliminate the right turn onto Avenues J, P, Kings Highway and other avenues from Ocean Parkway. Instead, motorists will have to turn one block before onto the service road in order to make the right turn.

  1. Hikind is right. First of all did those idiots in Albany look at a map of the area. Washington cemetery is in the way if someone turns right onto Ave j or foster Ave you have to go all the way to Mcdonald ave to go North. If you miss Av I you have to go to Ave M which is a major commercial street. The bottle necks would be a disaster. If you want to see how the DOT thinks of the motorists try getting off the prospect exp. at tenth ave or at Flushing Ave in Willy. After you wait about 10-15 minutes you’ll see they put a traffic light which makes traffic a nightmare for motorists.

  2. A better title would be “NY Assemblyman Dov Hikind Opposes Traffic Changes Coming to Ocean Parkway”

On the face of it, Hikind is 100% correct; forcing traffic onto the service roads at an earlier intersection will make things far worse, especially northbound at Avenue J where traffic will need to travel down the service road for two blocks since there is no Avenue K exit. Furthermore, will the service road now have traffic lights instead of stop signs? Unless the service road stop signs are replaced with green lights, turning traffic will crawl as each car will need to come to a full stop before proceeding.

Assuming the traffic engineers aren’t complete idiots, is there any way the public can view the data they used to decide these changes made sense?

  3. Getting to Kingshwy, will require turning on Ave R, by Mir Yeshiva, which is a very short block. Horrible to think how clogged that tiny street will be. to turn right up Kings Highway. Also trying to park along those service lanes will horrific. Many of those blocks lead to shuls where many people need to park, for Simchas or davening.

  4. Thanks to dov hikind the islands the dot wanted to install on Ft Hamilton pkwy never materialized and in some blocks it was uprooted when the community was not consulted originally

  6. All they really need is special traffic lights for turns. All the turning on Avenue J does make the place so dangerous to pass through. Everyone speeding up to be able to make the light and only one car able to turn on each green making the traffic absolutely insane all the way through Bay Parkway. Turning lights will make the place safer.

  7. He is 100% percent correct, I drive on ocean parkway a few times a week and this will make traffic much worse, who is the idiot who decided this?
