Jews in Orlando, Florida, are still working to make arrangements to ensure that they have sufficient food for the Yom Tov of Pesach, which begins tonight, after unexpected complications with a large food delivery from the tri-state area.

Four trucks were sent for the New York area for this particular delivery to the Orlando community, with two trucks arriving on Wednesday and two on Thursday. The food being transported was divided into two segments, frozen items and perishables in one delivery and dry goods in the other.

On Thursday, the dry goods truck arrived, but the frozen food truck was delayed. It was revealed later that the truck had broken down and was going to be delayed a full day.

Some people paid an extra five dollars per box to have their delivery brought directly to their home, while most others gathered upon the arrival of the trucks to pick up their orders, but chaos ensued with the delay of one of the trucks, which was said not to be arriving until this morning, Erev Yom Tov.

Sources also told Matzav.com that some of the perishable items were mistakenly placed on the wrong truck and thus were no longer usable. In addition, some people were missing items from the dry goods delivery.

Some families will not have meat and other items for Yom Tov.

  1. Oey Vey. This is truly a situation of Eis tZara hee Liyaakov. We must gather together and make a Yom Teffila. Maybe Micky mouse can help out.

  2. They should have just gotten in their cars and driven to Ormond Beach (Daytona area): about an hour drive, plus or minus depending on where in Orlando, with two kosher markets –one private Jewish run and one a large section in one of the big commercial chains (Winn Dixie). I was there earlier this week and they still had pelnty of everything: chicken, roasts, lamb shanks, dairy, frozen foods, shmurah matzah, dry goods and, most importantly, macaroons & jellied fruit slices!

Alternatively, they could have just ordered the food from South Florida. I know for a fact that there are several kosher distributors in the Dade-Broward-Palm Beach region, the second largest Jewish population in the US after the New York metroplex, and the trucks would only have to drive 200 miles instead of 1000!

This is a shanda! The leadership in Orlando needs to get their act together! This should not have happened and would not have happened if they were on the ball! Additionally, the big chains WILL stock kosher foods IF the community leadership communicates with them and lets then know there will be demand!

Very true but for a different reason. Because that Can’t afford to buy it in the first place.
I think we should worry about these families.
