obama-netanyahuPresident Obama has been “very specific and direct” in his conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Wednesday.

Obama and Netanyahu, who are known to have a frosty personal relationship, are holding a face-to-face meeting at the White House on Monday, as the situation with Iran continues to escalate for both countries.

Public statements from U.S. officials about a potential Israeli strike on Iran have angered some Israelis, particularly when Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey said an Israeli strike would be “destabilizing” and “not prudent.”
A report Tuesday said that Israeli officials have told the administration they won’t warn the United States if they do attack Iran.

Israel and the United States view the threat of a nuclear Iran differently, as Israel sees Iran as an existential threat and feels it has a closing window to be able to stop Iran’s nuclear program.

Carney said Wednesday that the United States has an “unshakeable commitment” to Israel’s security, and said the “level of cooperation will continue.”

“Our approach is very clear,” Carney said.

Carney said the Obama administration’s approach has been to “galvanize and mobile the international community” with sanctions to ratchet up pressure on Iran. The administration announced new sanctions on Iran Wednesday that were included in the National Defense Authorization Act passed last year.

While Obama has said no options are off the table, Carney said Wednesday there is “time and space” for the administration to continue its diplomatic path with Iran.

  1. If President Obama is not anti-Semitic, why do he and his Landsman, Attorney General Holder, allow Jonathan Pollard and Sholom Rubashkin to suffer in Federal prisons? Considering their very harsh sentences and the misconduct of the prosecution — in both cases — they should be pardoned!

Re. Pollard, please see http://www.Jonathan Pollard.org

  2. Specific- that they must not do anything that might chas ve challila affect the President’s job security, and direct -that if they dare to nevertheless, the US will oppose them

Meanwhile Iran is being told that specifically that there is still plenty of time for negotiation, and directly that the US is doing everything to prevent Israel from attacking them

  3. Rav Schwab of KAY Washington Heights voted for Herbert W Bush for his second term in 1992. Bush initiated sanctions against Israel in the form of preventing U.S. loan guarantees dollar for dollar against settlement expansion increases in the territories. Also Bush made a remark that he felt teamed up against by AIPAC and other Israel lobbies over the decision. Rav Schwab judged that it is more important to vote for the incumbent to show U.S. presidents that the frum Jewish Community would always to stick with the person in power at the time. A second part of the judgement dealt with the fact there is an overwhelming requirement of hakaras hatov and even HW Bush had been overall good for the Jewish Community. And furthermore, it is better to stay with the person you know than to move over to the person you don’t.

Obama has never even hinted at even minor sanctions of any kind. Furthermore he has, as has the secretary of defense, repeatedly promised to stop Iran from making a nuke.
