obama1The White House released a photo this morning of President Obama receiving a national security briefing while on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard.

The photo of Obama speaking with John Brennan, his top counterterrorism adviser, could be read as an effort to push back at arguments that the president is somehow disengaged while on vacation with his family.

Republicans and some Democrats have criticized Obama for traveling to Martha’s Vineyard during an economic crisis. The White House has responded that the president is entitled to some time with his family and that he remains engaged with his responsibilities.

Obama is scheduled to remain at Martha’s Vineyard until the end of next week.

He is getting daily briefings on the economy and foreign affairs from his advisers, the White House has said.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the president received a written economic briefing Friday from his economic team.

  1. Our economic crisis is year long. Mr. Obama deserves his time of rest and relaxation. We all know the Bush took his merriment often too. But the man does his job and being breifed I am certain that Obama’s mind is on the job.

  2. This story’s jibe at Mr. Obama’s vacation habits is totally biased. In the first instance, every president in modern history gets daily briefings while on vacation, and almost all have used these “vacation” briefings for photo ops. It’s standard procedure. Secondly, I would like to quote from an article by Eric Alterman in today’s Huffington Post:

“Bush ended up setting a presidential record for vacation days taken, more than 500 days over the course of his two administrations or an unbelievable 40 percent of his presidency.”

Before Republican Bush, the previous vacation record holder was Republican Ronald Reagan, who tallied 436 days in his two terms. So this jibe at Obama for his vacations is incredibly hypocritical.

There are enough serious issues with Obama’s bungling presidency without the need to resort to this inane nonsense.

  3. why do you publish articles from Republican paid for media like the Hill which publish lies. This article is a lie as though they know the psychology of Barack Obama.

Why do you hate Klal Yisroel so much that you do whatever you can to mold their thoughts with lies

  4. Why is it that people love to criticize the president for taking a vacation but forget that 4/8/12/16/20 years earlier they were defending their favorite president for doing so.

This is such a non-issue it isn’t even funny, it didn’t bother me when President Bush took a vacation, it doesn’t bother me now.

  5. What’s the big deal that he did “some” work while on vacation???

Show me one person that isn’t engrossed in his bb when he’s on vacation

  6. Dems fudging the numbers are classic. Bush was president for 2920 days meaning if he took 40% as vacation days he would have had to take 1168 vacation days.

I don’t trust the propagandist media (huffpo) either. They probably calculate every diplomacy trip Bush has taken as vacation and would calculate Obama’s foreign vacations as diplomatic work days.

  7. GRR…what a unfair way to get at the President in anything he does…..
in reality presidents are never on vacation. they are in constant touch with anything they need to know or do….
anything can be distorded and manipulated.
