White House Responds To We The People Petition for Yanky Ostreicher

ostreicher1The following is a response to the We the People petition for Yanky Ostreicher by Janice L Jacobs, Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs at the Department of State:

“We appreciate your concern for the welfare of a fellow citizen, Jacob Ostreicher, who is currently imprisoned in Bolivia. Although we cannot discuss the details of Mr. Ostreicher’s case, please be assured that we are closely watching it. The Department of State has strongly urged the Bolivian government to make all efforts to ensure a fair, transparent, and timely trial for Mr. Ostreicher, and to ensure that his health and welfare are safeguarded. State Department consular officials in Bolivia are also in contact with Mr. Ostreicher and are providing all available consular services to him.

“In international matters, the Department of State regularly acts on behalf of the President. As part of its mission, the Department of State encourages fair and transparent proceedings in all foreign legal systems consistent with the principles of constitutional democracy.
