Who Didn’t Want Us Dead?

menachem-stark3By Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz

I look at the picture of his face,

And see his smile.

I hear his children saying Kaddish.

And his father.

Overwhelmed with grief,

Wife, 8 children,

Awash in tears.

Communities around the world

Mourn.

A young life cut down,

Giving, loving,

Holy soul,

Snuffed out.

I look at the front page of the paper

I see mean,

Vicious,

Hatred,

Screaming loudly to the city and world.

I think back to

Lavan.

Eisov.

Nevuchadnetzar.

Trotsky, Lenin & Stalin.

All the way back in time.

Until this very day.

Who hasn’t wanted to see us dead and buried?

Jewish blood has always been cheap,

Nobody cared when they came after us.

We’ve been burnt at the marketplace.

Stomped.

Gassed.

Shot.

Given up for dead.

Yet here we are,

Persevering,

Succeeding,

Growing.

They can’t stand it.

They can’t stand us.

We are alive.

Where are they?

Titus.

Ferdinand, Isabella.

Mussolini.

Hitler.

Why, they ask, are the Jews titans of industry and commerce?

Real estate, stocks and bonds?

Why do they have influence?

Why aren’t they dead?

They are all cheaters.

They are all liars.

Underworld cut-throats.

They poisoned the wells,

They killed our babies,

For matzos.

They froze us in the winter,

Boiled us in the summer.

The Jews.

It’s all their fault.

The rotten,

Smelly,

Jews.

Till today they wonder

How to get rid of us.

They cover their hate with smiles,

Feigned ignorance,

And legal shenanigans.

“We love the Jews,” they say.

Sure, just as Paroh did.

All types of charges,

Allegations,

Fraud.

The Jews, they say, don’t care about laws,

Violations,

Fidelity,

Children,

Abuse victims.

They kill their baby boys,

To satisfy an ancient rite.

They rob, cheat and steal.

They can’t be trusted,

Disloyal citizens.

They control the banks,

The press,

But not the Post.

We thought it was different here.

America is not Russia,

Or Germany,

France or Rome.

It’s not,

But the hatred is here as well.

The quiet murmurs,

Suspicions,

And tricks.

We need reminders,

From time to time.

Don’t get complacent.

Don’t get too comfortable.

Remember we’re not home,

We’re far away,

Homeless,

On a comfortable bench,

In a nice park.

We pine for geulah,

Moshiach,

Redemption,

Salvation.

Uva leTzion goel.

  1. Jewish blood has always been cheap,
Nobody cared when they came after us.
We’ve been burnt at the marketplace.Stomped.
    Gassed.
    Shot.
    Given up for dead.

    THIS IS NOT TRUE ANYMORE.

We have a Homeland, under Jewish sovereignty. We have a brave Army and Air Force.

BUT YOU HAREDIM DON’T LIKE THE JEWISH STATE. IT’S NOT FRUM ENOUGH FOR YOU.

  2. I know that this comment is highly politically incorrect, but I would think that at least from the editor of the Yated we could expect something a little different. Why do we not see at lest one person asking for a little communal introspection
instead of screaming anti-semitism all the time, let’s actually work on ourselves for a change.

  3. WHEN THE PREVIOUS LUBAVITCHER REBBE CAME TO AMERICA IN 1940, UPON STEPPING ONTO THE SHORES OF THE UNITED STATES HE DECLARED “AMERICA IS NISHT ANDERSH”

  4. R’ Pinchus is on the money with the message about golus. However, he (once again) chooses to embellish the antisemetic sentiment while glossing over the responsibility WE have
Do we need to be reminded that goyim hate us? Sure. Is the Post totally out of line? Absolutely.

  5. This is utter nonsense, by comparing a tabloid to all the pogroms, libels, holocaust etc belittles the suffering we have gone through. You cannot compare a newspaper which you love to link to when they are anti-arab to official government persecution is absurd.

  6. I think this poem carries lots of self Jewish hatred and would never post this publicly even on these websites that are read and monitored by many anti Jews.

  7. Why is there such a lack of Achudus in Am Yisroel?

HOW INSENSITIVE can one be? how low have we stooped?

…AND WE STILL WONDER WHY MOSHIACH IS NOT COMING TO REDEEM US.

  8. Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz is right!!!!!!!!!

I live abroad, same time I did not know this “Kodosh” personally

Please I beg you fellow Yidden, lets hold hands and once again reunite to be worthy of the Geulah.

  9. Rabbi Lipshitz
    Once Again
    You Have
    Outdone
    Yourself!
I look up to the heavens
and ask our tatteh in Himmel
    Why is R’ Pinny
    The only editor
    with the courage
    and fortitude
    to stand up
    for our rights
    and beliefs.
    Yasher
    Koach!!!

  10. I think this is important for us not to forget. I think it’s also important not to read too much into the headline; the post specializes in this tripe.

  11. I have tears streaming down my face. We are in golus and we will continually be killed till Moshiach comes, may it be soon.

  12. To #3,
All Rabbi Liphshutz is saying is that we’re in Golus.
And even in Artzeinu HaKedosha, we are in Golus. Take one look at the anti-Torah government and its war on Limud HaTorah, and we are reminded that even in EY we are in Golus.
Jewish soldiers, Jewish airforce, and “Jewish” politicians don’t a Golus overcome.

  13. #2
Remember those who say “they went like lambs to slaughter? This wont happen again to us! we know better”!
Your that fool! your blinded just like they were! History says it will happen again. Open your eyes!!

  14. Using a NYP cover to declare anti-semitism as alive and well is a bit like looking at a dead chazer and saying it must be kosher because it has split hooves. The NYP prefers to outrage and offend with their covers. Remember when they showed a high school student and implied he was the Boston Marathon bomber without any evidence, aside from his skin color? Constantly showing pritzus? B”H our community hasn’t been mocked more often by those disgusting people.
It is a tragedy that Reb Stark was killed in this unspeakable way. But claiming that the Post is anti-semitic specifically, when they are really anti-everyone is a little much.

  15. R’ Pinchos
    This
    editorial
    reminds
    me
    of when
    I had to
    write
    an assignment
    in the
    5th
    grade
    and
    wrote in
    very
    large
    letters
    and
    double
    spaced
    lines
    to help fill
    up the
    paper.

    Think of
    how
    much
    paper
    could have
    been saved
    if you
    didn’t try
    to
    write
    this as
    a poem .

  16. My dear friends! Take it easy! Hashem is on our side, he loves us more than you can possibly imagine! Do hishtadlus to connect to him in this low generation, He know exactly what everyone’s nisyonos are, He just wants you take that baby step towards Him. With Simcha! Rav Avigdor Miller said that someone who’s not happy in Golus will not be happy when Moshiach comes. To my dear #3, I’m afraid more Jews were killed in Israel since the State’s founding than everywhere else in the world combined. If you take a look, you’ll discover that the State is not exactly heading in the direction G-d wants. Discover authentic Torah Judaism,it’s awesome! And it’s the way ALL the Jewish people have been living and surviving since it’s birth (until about 2-300 years ago unfortunately.) Chazak V’ematz!

Sorry, but it is. All you have to do is watch the world every time there’s a terrorist attack in Israel to know it.

We are in golus, regardless of whether we live in Eretz Yisrael or not.

  18. To: Golus #28:

Take one look at the anti-Torah government and its war on Limud HaTorah, and we are reminded that even in EY we are in Golus.

  19. Read and absorb “A Divine Madness”. We must desperately implore Hashem to protect Klal Israel as the birthpains of Moshiach become more severe in Eretz Israel as much as in Chutz L’Aretz.
We are in galus here – USA and in Israel.

  20. Thank you! A beautiful and heart-piercing piece.

    ___

Sad part is what is really bothering some of the commentators over here. Those who say “nihyeh k’chol hagoyim bais Yisroel”, C”V, and seek to emulate and integrate with the goyim re the ones who are so hurt by the truth here. Instead, they put their head in sand and start blaming us. Nebach.

  21. I don’t know what else you wrote but I can imagine; the editors left enough in your post. There are a number of sites and I can’t say I always agree with their decisions but I respect that Matzav MAKES decisions. There are matters like shmiras halashon, concern for the bereaved family, etc.
