Why Won’t You Convert Me?

2

During the course of three meetings at the Knesset State Control Committee, the Chief Rabbinate’s conversion vetting committee agreed to important concessions in regard to informing would be converts why their applications for conversion were rejected. Until now, the special three-man committee which vets conversion applications has not always informed people why they were rejected.

The vetting committee promised that rejected applicants will receive letters explaining why they were not accepted. It would also allow candidates to have Israelis vouch for them in front of the committee in order to make it easier for them to provide information about their background and motivations.

  1. This conversion debate is new. We have never had to deal with individual or family becoming Jewis.
