In yesterday’s primary for the 98th state Assembly District in Rockland County, NY, incumbent Karl Brabenec defeated John Allegro in the Republican primary, but lost to noted askan R’ Aharon Wieder in the Independence Party primary.

In the Democratic primary, Wieder beat Krystal Serrano. It was a rematch against Serrano, two years after losing to her by 68 votes.

In the somewhat complex 4-way race, Brabenec got about 58 percent of votes to beat Allegro, with Wieder garnering some 60 percent to knock out Serrano.

In the 98th Assembly District Republican primary, Brabenec got 2,652 votes, while Allegro got 1,950 votes.

In the 98th Assembly District Democratic primary, Wieder got 2,300 votes, while Serrano got 1,523 votes.

In the 98th Assembly District Independent primary, Wieder got 367 votes, while Brabenec got 81 votes.

Wieder will now be running in November on the Independent line.

In other results, Matzav previously reported on victories by Ruchie Freier in Boro Park (see here) and Ellen Jaffee in Rockland County (see here).

In other races in New York state, State Senator Simcha Felder ran unopposed on all three major party lines, Democrat, Republican and Conservative.

In the election for Democratic district leader for the 48th district, Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who has held the seat until now, ceded it at the last minute to his aide, David Schwartz. – Schwartz, 22, won by default, since he had no challenger. The position is an unpaid one.

  1. IN a couple of primary elections, the frum turned the primary essentially into a frum vs. everybody else
    foolishly -and lost
They could’ve and should’ve built alliances based upon consensus issues such as Doctor assisted Suicide-and probably would’ ve won
