Wife of Rav Pinto Said to Be Missing

rabbi-yoshiyahu-pinto[Update below.] The wife of Rav Yosef Yoshiyahu Pinto, head of the Shuva Yisroel kehillah, has gone missing in Argentina, askanim with Shuva Yisroel said on Erev Shabbos.

Mrs. Devorah Pinto has disappeared without a trace from a Buenos Aires medical center,  police said. There are she has been kidnapped.

Walla News reported Rav Pinto’s family as saying that “We wish and pray for her health and well-being.”

She was slated for medical treatment in Argentina, but no further details were available.

Shuva Yisroel is based in Ashdod and New York.

Rav Pinto was born in Israel of Moroccan descent. On his father’s side, he is a great-grandson of Rav Chaim Pinto. On his mother’s side, he is a grandson of the Baba Sali.

When he was in his early 20s, Rav Pinto founded Shuva Israel, a yeshiva in Ashdod. He oversees an organization that includes two yeshivos in Ashkelon, one in Kiryat Malachi, three in Ashdod, and one in Rishon Letzion, with a total of 500 students. The organization also has two schools for girls in Ashdod and one in Ashkelon. One of the Israeli locations provides money for living expenses to 180 widowed women. Rav Pinto’s kehillah in Ashod has four shuls that serve more than 1,200 mispallelim, a yeshiva with over 300 full-time talmidim, and a soup kitchen that provides 3,000 meals a day. Rav Pinto has also established a network of yeshivas in Los Angeles, Miami, and New York.

Update: Askanim with Shuva Yisroel relate that Mrs. Pinto has been found, boruch Hashem.
