Winter Storm Headed Toward Northeast

The winter storm that dumped snow on much of the Midwest, causing flight cancellations and school snow days, is heading toward the Northeast today.

The storm brought 17.5 inches of snow to O’Hare International Airport as of early Monday, and is expected to add 9 to 16 inches to Boston and similar amounts to Hartford, Providence, southern New Hampshire, and Vermont.

New York state is estimated to see 10 inches in Buffalo and 8 to 14 inches in Albany, while parts of Ohio should expect 4 to 9 inches.

More than 2,300 flights were canceled Monday, most of which were out of Chicago’s two airports. Amtrak is planning to operate on a regular schedule with some modifications while New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said residents should expect a messy commute.
