Witness: The Rubashkins Are Too Good

courtAs the Rubashkin tiral continues in South Dakota, many government witnesses have recalled Reb Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin as a generous, well-intentioned man.

Reb Shalom Mordechai lent employees money and helped workers’ relatives find jobs, one witness testified. Another remembered when Reb Shalom Mordechai threw a company party and invited even the lowest assembly-line workers and water-skied on the Mississippi River.

Today was the eighth day of Rubashkin’s trial in Sioux Falls.

On Thursday, both sides showed signs of fatigue. Defense lawyer Guy Cook nursed an energy drink and fought the sniffles. Matt Cole, one of the three U.S. attorneys assigned to the case, had just returned from a sick day. Lawyers traded objections, and the back-and-forth seemed testy at times.

“It’s been a long week,” said U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade. “Everyone go home and rest up.”

Reb Shalom Mordechai watched, expressionless, as witness after witness took the stand. At times he jotted notes on a white legal pad and spoke to his attorneys. At one point, Bensasson testified about his earlier statements to a federal grand jury.

“You told the grand jury that one mistake Sholom made was, he was too good,” Cook said.

“That’s the thing about the Rubashkins,” Bensasson replied. “They don’t realize that, when you’re too good, you get stepped on.”

Currently, the prosecution is presenting its case. When that concludes, the defense will get its chance to present the truth.

May we be Zoiche to see Rav Sholom Mordichai Shlita’s Salvation VERY SOON along with the ultimate salvation.

    Bi’mehera Bi’Yameinu
    Amen!

  2. Thank You Matzav and thank you Yated Neeman for spotlighting this great Tzaar and reminding us to Daven and beg for this very good man. May he see his yeshuah spedily.

  3. If you were presenting your arguments in court, you’d have objections up to your ears. How do you know exactly what the truth is? The only one who knows the full truth is G-d, not you.

  4. I wish SR all the best. If only the jury would only be hearing the Matzav reporter!!! The problem is they are hearing a lot more. The defense strategy is critical in portraying a disorganised corporation too big for his capabilities and skills. When running a massive operation in a dis-organised way you make all sort of knee-jerk quick-fix decisions that are not always smart or even proper, but this at no time was intended by SR or should be construed as a calculated violation of law. It is clear SR was reacting to the financial pressures with quick fixes – an attempt to commit fraud would have involved a much more sophisticated system. The ad-hoc documentation was sloppiness.
Regardless, a good man is on trial. That the jury sees and hears loud and clear.

  5. Not only does all of klall yisroel have to be mispallel for sholom morderchai ben rivka.
Rather we should all feel as if all of us are on trial because the ferrocity with which he is persecuted resembles a blood libel against the Jewish people.
May we see great yeshuos bimhera.amen.

  6. I feel someone had it in for him because of his wealth, who he is and how good a person he is. There is alot of jealousy out there. I hope Hashem sees it fit to make this man get a clean slate and untarnish the family name.

  7. THE RUBASHKIN FAMILY ARE KIND, HONEST AND GENEROUS PEOPLE.NOT KNOWING WHAT SHALOM WAS GOING THROUGH AT THE TIME. HE HIRED ME TO DO WORK IN HIS HOUSE. WHEN I WAS THERE I COULD NOT BELEIVE ALL THE CHESED HE UNDERTOOK. EVERY NIGHT DOWNSTAIRS IN HIS HOUSE HE HELD SUPPORT GROUPS FOR SINGLES TRYING TO FIND SHIDDUCHIM WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY UPSTAIRS FROM HIS HOME HE MADE ENGAGEMENT PARTIES FOR CHASANIM WHO COULD NOT AFFORD THE EXPENSE OF THE ARRANGEMENTS.
MAY HASHEM BLESS THIS FAMILY SO THEY SHOULD NO LONGER HAVE THESE HARDSHIPS AND MAY THEY CONTINUE TO0 BE ROLE MODELS OF KINDNESS.
