World’s Largest Mezuzah Affixed Near the Kosel

rav-shmuel-rabinovichThe largest mezuzah in the world was affixed near the Kosel yesterday by Rav Shmuel Rabinowitz, rov of the Kosel with the assistance of philanthropist Shmuel Flatto-Sharon, benefactor of the mezuzah.

The late Spanish artist Salvador Dali designed the mezuzah case, which is made out of bronze. Its dimension are: height: 4.5 feet, width: 25 centimeters, weight: 90 pounds. The klaf is 60 centimeters long.

Rav Rabinowitz said that it is hoped the people who see the large mezuzah will be moved to increase their acceptance of old malchus Shomayim – the yoke of Heaven.

  1. I know Dali was a talented artist, but it just doesn’t sit well with me that any mezuzah, especially this one in this location should be adorned by a case crafted by a devout Catholic. Oy has the galus been ever so long.

  2. correction,

    while there are sources that indicate his mother’s family had jewish routes, so does about 4/5 of spanish families as the ironic result of the expulsion in the 15th century. but they are far from being jewish lihalacha.

    also, there are sources that firmly hold that his mother was catholic.

    last, even if he was “genetically jewish” he clearly embraced catholicism for the last many years of his life.
