yahoo-children-caught-correctedFollowing communication from CAMERA staff and readers, Yahoo! News editors have changed a photo montage headline which falsely identified Israeli children fleeing rocket attacks as “Gaza’s children caught in crossfire.” Here is a screen capture of the original erroneous headline:

The  Snapshots blog, which first noted the false headline two days ago, pointed out:

This shot, according to the caption, is of Israeli children running for shelter during a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on November 15, 2012 in Nitzan, Israel. So why does the headline and subhead refer only to “Gaza’s children” struggling in the crossfire?

Perhaps it’s too much to ask for Yahoo! News to understand that, unlike Palestinian children suffering in Gaza, the Israeli children are not “caught in the crossfire” but are intentionally targeted by Hamas and Islamic Jihad rockets. But surely it isn’t too much to ask for Yahoo! to put an accurate headline on its photo montageof Israeli and Palestinian children, so that it expresses concern for both Palestinian and Israeli children.

The corrected headline, which now appears on Yahoo! News, is as follows:  The url for the slideshow still refers to “Gaza children caught in the crossfire” even though several of the images show Israeli children seeking shelter from rocket fire.

  1. This was not Yahoo content, it was syndicated content from a major news source (I believe AP or Rueters) that was being featured on Yahoo. While I respect Camera, they did not notify Yahoo of the error and went straight to the public. I contacted Yahoo, who was unaware of the issue, and they corrected it pretty quickly.

  2. oh people this is sooo delibirate! ‘Israeli children caught in rocket attack’ H-shem should give them measure for measure for their falsehood and cruelty

  3. The first time they are eager to identify the Arabs as victims of an Israeli aggressor, but when they find out the opposite is true, they suddenly prefer that the victims retain anonymity. Yahoo News are the biggest anti Semites. I always see their coverage of Israel as more anti Israel than Al Jazeera (even).
