The New York Yankees have reportedly chosen ESPN broadcaster Aaron Boone over five other candidates to be their next manager.

Boone, 44, will replace Joe Girardi, who has managed the team since 2008 and led them to their most recent championship in 2009. General Manager Brian Cashman recommended Boone as manager to Hal Steinbrenner, the team’s managing general partner, according to The New York Times.

Boone, who has no managerial or coaching experience, has been working as a baseball television analyst for ESPN since 2010. After interviewing for the job earlier this month, Boone said, “I would say in a way I’ve been preparing for this job for the last 44 years.” He played 12 seasons in the majors and retired eight years ago, but his career highlight came in 2003, when he hit a now legendary walk-off home run to beat the Boston Red Sox and bring the Yankees to the World Series. Read more at THE NEW YORK TIMES.

  1. Bob Boone was nothing special. His son, Aaron, was even worse. They are like Reggie Jackson. All fluff. All talk. Led the majors in strikeouts by a hitter! Overrated babies. Worthless.

  2. Lemaaseh, the Yankees stink. They need a lot of help. Getting a new manager is a start but they still have a long way to go.
